Gyakie has revealed the motivation behind her latest single, “December,” recounting a time when she felt suicidal and lost.

The artist expressed that she faced challenging moments and used the song as a way to reflect on her journey of self-discovery.

She mentioned that the lyrics of the track are honest, inspired by a personal disappointment from someone she deeply cared about. This revelation was made during a recent interview on TV3.

The singer, who spoke to TV3 in an interview, explained that “It’s a song I created during one of my melancholy times… Every line in the song is straight; I’m not simply crafting lyrics. “Someone disappointed me—a special someone.”

“I even got to the point where there’s that (suicidal thoughts),” she said.

“I felt I needed to start again in terms of my sound. I felt disconnected from reality as well. So, from the start of the year, I used that time to discover myself.”

In other news related to Gyakie, the singer shared with media personality Berla Mundi the story of her parents’ reaction to her singing talent and her journey to success in the music industry.

As the daughter of the renowned Highlife musician Nana Acheampong, Gyakie says her mother recognised her potential at a young age and predicted that she would follow in her father’s footsteps.

With a touch of nostalgia, Gyakie fondly recalled how her mother would occasionally ask her to sing for their guests, even though she was initially hesitant.

Despite her reservations, Gyakie’s father, who has been a part of the industry for four decades, was not surprised when she pursued a music career.

The serial hitmaker said her father provided her with guidance and support, imparting valuable knowledge on how to navigate the industry and maintain her relevance over time.

Gyakie’s rapid rise to prominence has solidified her position as one of the most promising artists of her generation.
