In the world of music, where rivalries often ignite and escalate quickly, the decision to ignore a diss track takes more than just patience; it takes wisdom.
Ghanaian rapper Okyeame Kwame found himself at such a crossroads when Obrafour, one of Ghana’s most respected lyricists, released the track Kasiebo.
Okyeame interpreted parts of the song as directed at him and was understandably upset. As he recalled in a recent interview, “I was angry at that time; I got very angry.
“I wanted to react.” Okyeame, known for his lyrical skill, had already begun crafting a response that he intended to deliver with full force. However, it was his wife’s voice that ultimately steered him toward a different path.
Okyeame’s wife, who has long been his partner both in life and career, stepped in at that critical moment with a different perspective. She encouraged him to reconsider, not by dismissing his feelings but by helping him see the bigger picture.
“You haven’t even done a song about Nkrumah or about God. Why do a song about another artist?” she told him, urging him to use his platform for meaningful, positive messages rather than retaliation.
Her words had a grounding effect on him, reminding him of his values and the legacy he aimed to build. This wasn’t just about avoiding drama—it was about channeling his influence wisely and with purpose.
Reflecting on his wife’s advice, Okyeame chose to walk away from the feud, a decision he now deeply appreciates.
“Among all the things I have done in my life, the only thing I am grateful for is not insulting him back. Because I would have lost my respect and a friend,” he admitted.
