Mzbel has revealed in an interview that she was responsible for the arrest of certain bloggers and journalists spreading false information about her.
She emphasized that social media has empowered individuals who misuse it. According to her, it is troubling how some people freely insult celebrities and public figures without any valid reason.
Mzbel, who has experienced cyberbullying herself, mentioned that she has taken legal action against media personnel and bloggers in the past, opting to keep these cases confidential due to their delicate nature.
“I have sued media people before and taken a couple of people on, but it was not made public. They have learned their lessons and have repented. One is a journalist, and the rest are bloggers,” Mzbel said.
“I feel like a lot of people are taking advantage of social media to do wrong things. We are abusing social media. Irrespective of the calibre of people, netizens will find a way to disrespect someone…Social media has become like a weapon,” she added.
Cyberbullying has become a prevalent issue within the Ghanaian entertainment industry, with many celebrities facing constant harassment and abuse online.
Mzbel’s recent statement only adds to the growing concerns about the negative impact of cyberbullying on individuals in the public eye.
The entertainment industry in Ghana needs to address this issue and take steps to protect its artists from online abuse.
Social media platforms should also take responsibility for creating a safe environment for users and implementing measures to prevent cyberbullying.
