The Ghana Education Service (GES) has outlined how candidates’ aggregates for the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) will be calculated under the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS).
GES is also reminding candidates, parents, and schools to confirm their school choices on the CSSPS portal before the deadline of September 8, 2025.
“The CSSPS portal is live and active. Candidates are encouraged to log in via the official link www.cssps.gov.gh/hub/login to confirm their school choices,” said Mr. Daniel Fenyi, Public Relations Officer of GES, in a statement issued on Tuesday, September 2.
How the Aggregate is Calculated
- Add the grades for the four core subjects
- English Language
- Mathematics
- Integrated Science
- Social Studies
- Add the best two grades from the remaining subjects.
This formula has always been the standard used by the CSSPS placement team. While raw scores remain the primary basis for placement, the aggregate score also plays a key role in determining which schools candidates can be placed in.
Example of BECE Aggregate Calculation
Candidate’s results:
- English Language – Grade 2
- Mathematics – Grade 3
- Integrated Science – Grade 2
- Social Studies – Grade 3
- ICT – Grade 2
- Religious & Moral Education (RME) – Grade 1
- BDT – Grade 4
Step 1: Add the core subjects
English (2) + Maths (3) + Science (2) + Social Studies (3) = 10
Step 2: Pick the best two other subjects
RME (1) + ICT (2) = 3
Step 3: Add them together
Core (10) + Best Two (3) = Aggregate 13
Support for Candidates
Mr. Fenyi assured parents and candidates that the CSSPS team is available 24/7 to offer support. Anyone who notices errors in their school selection or personal details can report using the “Message” option on the portal.
He added that feedback from users helps improve the process, and stressed that the portal will close on September 8, 2025, after which final placements will be processed based on the confirmed data.
