Renowned singer George Darko has passed away. As of the time of filling out this report, the cause of his death remains unknown.

The late Ghanaian artist was celebrated for his exceptional guitar skills and soulful melodies that have left a lasting impact on the Highlife music scene in Ghana.

His iconic song, Akoo Te Brofo, is considered one of the greatest Highlife tracks to come out of the country.

He passed away on Wednesday, March 20, at the Tetteh Quarshie Memorial Hospital.

George Darko was born in Akropong, in the Eastern Region of Ghana. His journey began with showcasing his talent in traditional dancing and drumming.

However, it was a meeting with a teacher who handcrafted his own guitar that ignited Darko’s love for the stringed instrument. Influenced by iconic Western bands like The Beatles, Rolling Stones, and Jimi Hendrix, Darko, also known as Tufuhene of Akropong with the stool name Nana Apem Darko I, brought a modern touch to traditional highlife music.

He was affectionately called the King of Burger Highlife for his innovative contributions to the genre, reshaping it within the realm of highlife music.

Tragically, George Darko passed away shortly after the death of another Highlife legend, KK Kabobo, who succumbed to liver disease.
