The Accra High Court has dismissed the case against former Ghana Football Association (GFA) President, Kwesi Nyantakyi, after the prosecution failed to produce investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas as a witness.
Nyantakyi had been facing charges of conspiracy to commit fraud and corruption following the explosive 2018 “Number 12” exposé, which alleged corruption in African football.
The trial, however, was repeatedly delayed due to legal disputes over whether Anas should testify while wearing his trademark mask.
In January 2025, the Court of Appeal ruled that Anas must testify without his disguise to ensure a fair trial.

However, the prosecution struggled to secure his testimony, and on February 13, 2025, they requested another adjournment to seek further direction from the Attorney General.
Nyantakyi’s legal team, citing the repeated delays, pushed for the case to be dismissed. The High Court agreed, discharging him and ending a five-year legal battle that had cast a long shadow over Ghanaian football.
This ruling closes a high-profile case that has sparked debate on the effectiveness of undercover journalism in legal proceedings and its impact on Ghana’s football administration.
