In a heartfelt and candid interview with Ohemaa Woyeje, Ghanaian gospel artist Empress Gifty shared a glimpse into the personality and daily life of her husband, politician Hopeson Adorye.
Known for his bold statements and unapologetic demeanour, Adorye has made a name for himself in Ghanaian politics, often stirring up controversy and debate. But, as Gifty revealed, there’s a lighter, more humorous side to his outspoken nature that the public rarely sees.
“After such interviews, he comes home and tells me he’s thrown some bombs again,” Gifty laughed. “Then I tease him that he’ll be trending for a long time. That’s all he says.
He doesn’t dwell on them. I know who he is and what he stands for.” Her tone, a mix of admiration and gentle humour, captured the balance she has found in supporting her husband without stepping too far into his political life.
Describing him as straightforward and unbending in his convictions, Gifty shared that Adorye’s approach is to tackle issues head-on. “When he says he’s gone, then he’s gone. That’s just who he is. So, I try not to interfere in his work matters,” she added.

Her words hinted at the independence each of them maintains in their respective careers, with Gifty offering unwavering support without crossing into his political domain.
Yet, Gifty’s role as a supportive partner hasn’t shielded her from the challenges that come with being married to a public figure. The political landscape can be intense and, at times, dangerous, with threats becoming part of the territory.
Recalling a particularly tense period, she said, “By God’s grace, the police stepped in, and everything is calm now. The threats have subsided.” Her voice carried a mix of relief and faith, showing the resilience required of her as she stood beside Adorye through both the highs and the lows of political life.
Her interview wasn’t solely about her husband, though; Gifty also touched on the broader political climate and its impact on everyday citizens. Reflecting on the struggles that many Ghanaians face, she recalled a recent conversation she’d heard from a fellow Ghanaian woman.
“I was listening to a woman the other day, and she said that now she’s really feeling the heat because the country is hot, and she’s selling her vote.” The story illustrated the difficult realities many face and the complex dynamics of political support in challenging economic times.
