Have you ever seen Sarkodie or Stonebwoy fighting for royalties? – A Plus asks

A Plus has pointed out that Ghanaian artists frequently advocate for better royalty payments during periods of decline in their careers.

The former musician and politician candidly stated that if he is elected as a member of parliament for Gomoa West, he will not engage in efforts to address the longstanding issues surrounding royalties in the industry.

He reinforced his argument by questioning whether prominent artists like Stonebwoy and Sarkodie have ever been observed fighting for or expressing dissatisfaction regarding insufficient royalties.

During his appearance on Hitz FM, he emphasized that Ghanaian artists tend to seek royalty improvements only when they are not securing high-paying performance opportunities.

“I’m not here to come and spend my time fighting for people’s royalties. Because the people that you are going to fight for, they only start talking about royalties when they are not getting shows and are not selling then they remember that they have royalties.

“When they are making money and you talk about royalties, they get angry. Let’s go to meeting, they won’t come.

“Do you hear Stonebwoy or Sarkodie or all these big artistes fighting over royalties? They are making money now. They are playing shows. They are okay, but once it reduces, then now you find them,” he said.

Kwame A Plus emphasised that his focus is on his interests and supporting underprivileged communities, rather than fighting for interests of industry players.

“So for me, I’m not in this for anybody’s interest. I mean this for my interests and underprivileged people and communities. If anybody wants to be part of it, I’ll find a place in my setting for them,” he expressed.
