Prince Opoku Afriyie, President of the National Social Studies Association, has voiced concerns about the leadership style of former Education Minister Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum.
Speaking in an interview with Kojo Marfo on AbusuaNkommo at Abusua 95.5 FM, Prince Afriyie highlighted critical areas where Adutwum’s approach fell short, urging the newly appointed Education Minister-designate, Haruna Iddrisu, to adopt a more inclusive and collaborative approach.
“One thing I dislike about Adutwum is that he doesn’t take others’ opinions seriously,” Afriyie remarked. “Once he’s made up his mind, he doesn’t consider people’s input.”

Afriyie emphasized that effective leadership in the education sector requires collaboration and active listening.
“If you attend a teachers’ meeting, everyone there is knowledgeable. It’s a sector where, if you’re not a good listener who takes inputs from key stakeholders, you’ll find it challenging,” he explained.
Critiquing Adutwum’s policies, Afriyie noted that while they appeared commendable on paper, the lack of necessary resources hindered their successful implementation.
“The level to which he raised education standards looked excellent on paper, but in reality, it was poor because there were no equipment or tools to cope with the policies,” he added.
