Reports have emerged suggesting that the office of the Creative Arts Agency, established under Act 1048 in 2020 during President Nana Akufo-Addo’s administration, has been stripped of its furnishings following the change in government.
The agency, which was led by Gyankroma Akufo-Addo, initially operated near Jubilee House before relocating to Kanda.
According to broadcaster Kwasi Aboagye, the situation took a dramatic turn after Akufo-Addo left office, and his daughter was no longer in charge.
Speaking on Peace FM’s Entertainment Review, Aboagye alleged that Gyankroma, who personally financed the furnishing of the office, has removed everything she provided now that she no longer heads the agency.
“Now, unfortunate reports are coming in, stating that since Gyankroma Akufo-Addo personally spent her own money to furnish that office, and now that her father is no longer in power and she is no longer the head of the Creative Arts Agency, she has packed everything out of the office. The real owners of the building, the Bureau of Languages, have also reclaimed their property,” he stated.
Expressing his frustration, Aboagye questioned the logic behind the move, highlighting the broader issues within the creative arts sector under Akufo-Addo’s government.
“If we are in a country where the law allows us to establish an agency, and we do, is it right to pack everything out just because a particular government is leaving power?” he asked.
He further criticized the lack of state support for the agency, alleging that Gyankroma’s personal investment was necessary only because the government failed to provide adequate resources.
“I will say it as it is; if you tell me I’m doing politics, I don’t care. This is a result of how Akufo-Addo treated the creative arts sector. His government couldn’t provide for the agency, and it was his daughter who had to spend her own money to furnish the office, only to take everything back when she leaves? What kind of country is this?” he fumed.
The Bureau of Languages, the rightful owners of the building, has reportedly taken back the space, leaving questions about the future of the Creative Arts Agency and its operations.
