On July 2, 2024, Ghanaian chef, Ebenezer Smith, professionally known as Chef Smith, made headlines by hosting a press conference where he proudly declared that he had achieved the title of the longest individual cooking marathon as per the guidelines of Guinness World Records (GWR).

During the event, he displayed a plaque that he asserted was sent by the record scheme’s organizers, providing evidence to support his assertion.

Nevertheless, there have been doubts raised about the authenticity of his claim due to the absence of any official announcement on the GWR website.

Many Ghanaians have however contended that since GWR has not officially recognized this accomplishment on their platform, Chef Smith’s assertion may be unfounded.

As people eagerly awaited confirmation or denial from Guinness World Records officials, the situation was further complicated by conflicting information on their official website regarding Chef Smith’s claim.

However, a recent update on the Guinness World Records website has revealed that the cooking marathon record is no longer active, a development that has illuminated entertainment news in Ghana.

Chef Smith cooked for 35 days in Spintex, clocking 820 hours after ending his attempt on March 1.

It remains uncertain whether Chef Smith obtained approval from GWR before declaring himself the latest record holder.

Twitter influencer Bright Simons shared this recent development in a post with the following caption:

“Guinness World Records deactivates its “cookathon” category after it seems to have inspired an unstoppable frenzy in certain parts of the world.

“In Ghana, one contender, displaying a certificate as the new record holder, claims to have cooked for more than 30 days.”
