The government has shut down Gumah FM in Bawku over national security concerns, citing its role in fueling tensions in the conflict-prone area.
The Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovations ordered the closure following an intelligence report from the Upper East Regional Security Council (REGSEC), which accused the station of inciting violence and disrupting public order.
The decision came after a high-level emergency meeting on February 11, 2025, where REGSEC reviewed escalating security threats in Bawku and parts of the North East Region.

With immediate effect, Gumah FM has been ordered off the air, while security agencies remain on high alert to prevent other platforms from being used to incite unrest.
The government has also reminded media houses of their responsibility to uphold peace and adhere strictly to broadcasting regulations.
