Gospel musician and television host Empress Gifty has finally addressed the confusion surrounding her name and its shared usage with actress and fellow television personality Nana Ama McBrown.
In an interview on Pure FM, which was monitored by GhanaStreetJournal, Empress Gifty set the record straight, clarifying the origins of her name and responding to rumors of rivalry between the two.
The controversy stems from the fact that both celebrities have adopted the title “Empress” in their professional careers, which has led to some division among their fan bases.
Fans of Empress Gifty and Nana Ama McBrown have often speculated about competition between the two, fueling rumours that they might not be on the best of terms.

However, during the interview, Empress Gifty was quick to clear up any misconceptions. She revealed that “Empress” has been part of her official name for a long time, and she chose it specifically to brand herself within the entertainment industry.
“‘Empress’ is not just a title I picked up. It’s my actual name, Gifty Empress Oppong Ardoye,” she stated firmly, leaving no room for doubt about her rightful claim to the name.
According to her, she had been using the name long before it gained broader public recognition. She pointed out that one of her vehicles was registered as “Empress 16” as far back as 2016, further solidifying her longstanding connection to the title.
While acknowledging that Nana Ama McBrown has more recently adopted the title “Empress” in her own entertainment career, Gifty did not seem bothered by the overlap. She focused instead on affirming her own identity and the legacy she has built over the years.
“The title ‘Empress’ means something special to me, and I’ve been using it for a while now. There’s no competition on my side,” she shared during the interview, addressing any perceived rivalry.
