Ghanaians Are More Partisan Than Patriotic – Kofi Kinaata

Kofi Kinaata shifted his focus from entertainment to delve into the realm of politics, specifically addressing the reasons behind Ghana’s slow development despite its vast reserves of mineral resources.

During an interview with GHOne’s Lily Mohammeed, the singer highlighted how politicians manipulate the public, regardless of their party affiliation.

He also expressed concern over the prioritization of party loyalty over national patriotism among the majority of individuals.

Additionally, the rapper lamented the current climate where citizens are hesitant to express their opinions without being labelled as supporters of a particular political party.

He said “Over the years, we have been sweet-talked to by politicians in this country but nothing happens and there is no change. For me, I’ve given up.

The Effiekuma Broken Heart hitmaker continued “The people are making things difficult so we cannot address issues because someone thinks he is party A so whatever you’re saying goes against party A so don’t say. He is party B so even if he’s dying.

People tend to love their party more than the country and so everything is in a mess”.

On the same platform, Kofi Kinaata explained his decision to steer clear of politics and avoid aligning with any political party during a recent interview.

He expressed his reluctance to engage in dishonesty and manipulation, common practices in the political sphere.

Kinaata firmly believes that the public prefers honesty, making it challenging for someone like him to succeed in an election.

“I cannot venture into politics. In politics, if something is blue they will say it is green so I can’t. If you tell the truth the people will not vote for you so I won’t even try it,” he told Gh One’s Lily Mohammed.

On whether he has been approached by political parties he said “Yes a number of them but I will not want to talk about it. I’m friends with Cheddar and all the other politicians in the country but I don’t support any of them. We will look at policies and programmes and follow those we think are feasible”.

Kofi Kinaata further indicated that “over the years, we have been sweet talked to by politicians in this country but nothing happens and there is no change.
