Ghanaian actress and journalist Jayne Buckman Owoo has been reported dead after a short illness
Jayne passed away on Friday, August 18, 2023. No further information has been released regarding the cause of her passing.
Ms Buckman-Owoo was a dedicated staff writer for Graphic Showbiz for over two decades, covering significant events both in Ghana and abroad. Her contributions to the creative industry were recognized at the Golden Age Creative Arts Awards (GACAA) in 2021, where she was honoured for her years of service and various roles within the industry.
Seasoned journalist and former columnist at Graphic Showbiz, Francis Doku confirmed the sad news on his Facebook page, along with a mournful elegy that reads:
I am very bad at memorising my car number plate. Even worse, I can”t memorise phone numbers. But there only about six numbers that if In slept and you woke me up and asked my I will read them back to you by rote: My wife’s number, my friend Amma Sampong’s number, my friend Aba Da-Woode Amarh’s 026 number (it’s an easier number to memorise), my former boss Uncle Nab’s (Nanabanyin Dadson) number and my former colleague, friend and sister Jayne Buckman-Owoo’s number. I guess if someone has been your colleague and friend for well-nigh 25 years, was your wedding MC with Abeiku Santana, calls you every week to check on you, your wife and children and would call your wife when she doesn’t get through to you, memorising her mobile phone number is but a small part of your commitment to her. I am sure I am typing rubbish, but I don’t know what to type and Mark Z is asking what’s on my mind. God, this is painful. Very painful. Very very painful. Nothing has hit me this hard in a long forking time! I’m heart broken. No I’m devastated!
