The Ghana Education Service (GES) has announced a new reopening date for single-track senior high schools, shifting it from March 29, 2025, to April 23, 2025.
A circular issued on March 27, 2025, and signed by Prince C. Agyeman-Duah, Director of the Schools and Instructions Division, directed regional education directors to ensure that all relevant stakeholders are informed.
“By this letter, regional directors of education are requested to communicate this information to all heads of single-track senior high and senior high technical schools to inform parents, guardians, and students to take note of the new date and prepare accordingly,” the statement read.
Initially, students were expected to resume on March 29, 2025, after their March 4 vacation. However, due to the upcoming Eid-Ul-Fitr celebrations on March 30 and 31, the date was first adjusted to April 1, 2025, before further considerations extended it to April 23, 2025.
A statement from the Ministry of the Interior explained that since Eid-Ul-Fitr falls on Sunday, March 30, 2025, the President had, through an Executive Instrument (E.I.), declared Monday, March 31, and Tuesday, April 1, as additional public holidays.
This extension now gives students and staff more time before resuming academic activities.
