The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) swift response to the Office of the Special Prosecutor’s (OSP) declaration of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta as a wanted fugitive has sparked internal debate, with the party’s Director of Legal Affairs, Gary Nimako, expressing reservations about the approach taken.
Speaking on Neat FM on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, Nimako stated that while party executives may have acted based on their interpretation of the situation, he believed the reaction was premature.
“Looking at the dates on the letters, I hold the view that the timing was too short to have come to that conclusion. Nana B is also a lawyer, so maybe he proceeded based on his understanding of the matters available to him,” he said, referring to the party’s National Organizer, Henry Nana Boakye.

The NPP, through its press conference, had strongly condemned the OSP’s move, describing it as politically motivated and unjustified.
However, Nimako argued that a more measured approach would have been appropriate, particularly given the legal complexities involved.
“I was not consulted on the press conference, and if I had been, I would have given a different opinion. Some of these matters require engagement and consultation before reacting,” he remarked.
He further stressed the importance of thorough deliberation, pointing out that sensitive legal issues should not be handled with hasty public statements.
“The party should have consulted widely, sought legal advice, and allowed for ongoing investigations before making the rushed decision to hold a press conference,” he advised.
