French Montana Dragged to Court Over Fatal Incident During Music Video Shoot

French Montana is being sued months after a Florida music video shoot of his concluded in a hail of gunfire.

An extra who worked on the video production in January, Carl Leon, alleges that the rapper could have done more to stop at least ten people from getting hurt. The claims are refuted by French’s counsel, who calls Leon’s assertion a “profit play and a publicity stunt.”

Leon claims in his complaint that if Montana and his company had obtained the proper permits for video production, the Montana music video shooting would have been a “preventable, foreseeable incident.” Leon is suing both the eatery and Gayles Plaza, the property owner of the street where the killing took place. The incident which happened in January saw up to ten persons being shot.

Up to ten people were shot on January 5 while French Montana and rapper Rob49 were shooting a music video for the song “Igloo” in the parking lot of The Licking Restaurant in Miami Gardens. An unknown man barricaded himself with a $400k car as a prop and started shooting with an assault weapon.

“It was an extremely unfortunate situation that led to multiple people suffering serious injuries,” Leon’s attorney Josiah Graham, tells Rolling Stone.

“The most egregious thing is that people were beaten up and robbed at this video shoot and the [production] did not shut down. “Montana continued to video shoot, moved it across the street, and those assailants returned and shot the place up,” he adds. “Things like that should not be able to go on.”

Leon’s attorney stated in the suit that his client has suffered “great bodily injury, pain, mental anguish, and loss of the capacity for the enjoyment of life” and is seeking $50,000 in addition to legal fees.
