Frank Ocean Cancels Coachella Weekend 2 Performance; Says First Performance “Isn’t What I Intended,” Following Leg Injury

Frank Ocean has cancelled his second performance at Coachella, which was supposed to happen this weekend. This comes a week after his first performance, which was his first live show in six years and made many fans sad and confused.

The singer was supposed to perform during the second weekend of the event, but a representative for Ocean told Rolling Stone on Wednesday that he had broken bones and sprained his leg during the first week of the event and could not perform.

“It was chaotic. There is some beauty in chaos. It isn’t what I intended to show but I enjoy being out there and I’ll see you soon,” the “Novacane” singer said.

What Happened at the First Performance

Frank Ocean was, without question, the most anticipated headliner at Coachella 2023, preceded by world famous acts including Bad Bunny and BLACKPINK. It was his first show since 2017.

Before the pandemic, he was supposed to be the main act at the festival in 2020. After that, the event was moved to 2023. But people started to get angry when it was announced that, unlike other acts, this one would not be livestreamed on the Coachella YouTube channel.

The singer went on stage at about 11 p.m. local time, an hour after his planned start time. He left out a few hit songs and used a voice track for others while miming along.

Ocean was also seated for a large chunk of his set (possibly due to the aforementioned ankle injury) and didn’t even have a microphone in hand while performing, which many fans called out on Twitter.
