The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has praised the Ghana Police Service for making what it describes as a significant breakthrough in the investigation of the murder of investigative journalist Ahmed Suale.
The police have arrested and arraigned Daniel Owusu Koranteng, also known as Amakye, a key suspect in the case. He was brought before the Madina District Court on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, where he was remanded into police custody. His next court appearance is scheduled for April 1, 2025.
In a statement signed by its General Secretary, Kofi Yeboah, the GJA highlighted the importance of this arrest, marking it as a major step toward justice for Suale, who was assassinated on January 16, 2019.
“For more than six years since the assassination of Ahmed Suale, this is the first time the Police have made a significant impact in respect of bringing the suspected killers of the investigative journalist to face justice,” the GJA stated.
The association further expressed hope that this latest development would pave the way for full accountability in the case.
“We hope this major breakthrough in the arrest and prosecution of suspect Daniel Owusu Koranteng will only be the beginning of the long search for justice for Ahmed Suale.”
Suale, a member of the investigative group Tiger Eye PI, was shot and killed near his residence in Accra in what many believe was a targeted attack due to his work in uncovering corruption. His murder sparked widespread condemnation and demands for justice, with little progress reported over the years.
