Final judgment on Martha Ankomah and Lilwin’s case scheduled for July 31

The defamation case filed by actress Martha Ankomah against Kumawood actor and producer Lilwin is scheduled to be heard on July 31.

This comes after the Case Management Conference was completed on July 25, presided over by Justice Forson Agyapong Baah at the High Court in Accra.

The judge has directed that Lil Win be informed of the hearing and the court’s notes through the usual channels, as he was not present at the previous session and did not have legal representation.

Martha Ankomah dragged Lilwin to court in February this year following his infamous verbal assault on her through social media due to her decision to distance herself from Kumawood.

Lilwin recorded a video of himself expressing his anger towards actress Martha Ankomah. The reason behind his frustration was Martha’s alleged derogatory comments about Kumawood movies.

It is reported that Martha Ankomah declined an offer to be a part of a Kumawood project, stating that their storylines were terrible and their productions were inferior.

Lilwin, who is often seen as the face of Kumawood, strongly criticized Martha Ankomah for her remarks. He believed that instead of using foul language, Martha Ankomah could have simply declined the offer or asked for an exorbitant fee that would make it impossible for the producer to afford her.

In a heated tone, Lilwin expressed his disappointment, stating that Martha Ankomah had lost her relevance and was only making such comments to stay in the limelight.

He reminded her that A-list actresses like Van Vicker and Yvonne Nelson had previously worked in Kumawood, emphasizing that Martha was nobody compared to them.

In this development, Ankomah is seeking several forms of relief in her lawsuit, including:

  • GH¢5 million in damages for defamation.
  • Compensatory damages for harm to her reputation.
  • Aggravated damages for the malicious nature of the statements.
  • An apology and retraction of the defamatory words.
  • An injunction preventing Lil Win from making further defamatory statements.
  • Legal costs.
