Felix Kwakye Ofosu, speaking on behalf of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Transition Team, provided insights into the upcoming inauguration of President-Elect John Dramani Mahama, scheduled for January 7, 2025.
In a press briefing held at the Black Star Square on January 4, 2025, Ofosu described the event as “a historic occasion,” emphasizing that it marks the return of a former president to office and the swearing-in of Ghana’s first female Vice President.
He explained that while presidential inaugurations are typically held at Parliament House, the venue has been moved to Black Star Square to accommodate the large number of attendees expected.
Ofosu also highlighted the strict security measures in place for the event, noting that access to designated areas will be by invitation only.
Among the notable guests anticipated are two Vice Presidents, a Speaker of Parliament, and international representatives from organizations such as the Commonwealth and the African Development Bank.
He further outlined the layout of the venue, with the Swearing-In Area as the focal point of the ceremony.
The Ministries Area Stand will host dignitaries including the outgoing President, Vice President, visiting Heads of State, and Speakers of Parliament.
Meanwhile, the Osu Area Stand will be open to the public. Large LED screens will be set up for virtual attendees.
Felix Kwakye Ofosu urged all attendees to be seated by 8:30 AM in preparation for the arrival of Members of Parliament and other dignitaries, who will escort the President-Elect and Vice President-Elect to the Swearing-In Area. The stage is set for what promises to be a momentous day in Ghana’s political history.
