In a message about family loyalty and resilience shared on Instagram, Nollywood actor Yul Edochie subtly addressed his brother Lincoln Edochie’s recent public comments regarding family matters.
The message, which many interpret as a response to Lincoln’s remarks in an interview with veteran actor Kanayo, reflects Yul’s belief in keeping family issues private, using discretion to uphold unity despite differences.

“Never castigate your family in public,” Yul advised, pointing to a philosophy of handling conflicts behind closed doors. “That’s the sign of a weak person,” he continued, emphasizing the importance of keeping personal matters within the family unit.
He pointed to a notable example, saying, “You don’t see Davido and his uncle? When they’re in public, they’re hugging, dancing, and happy. Any matter wey dey, na inside house dem dey treat am.”
The advice comes amid family tensions following Yul’s decision to marry a second wife, Judy Austin, which has sparked public reactions and generated media scrutiny.
Lincoln Edochie, in his interview, noted how their father had disapproved of Yul’s decision to go public with his new marriage, a stance that Lincoln shared with the interviewer.
Yul’s recent post appears to call for more discretion and privacy in family affairs, encouraging relatives to resolve disputes privately rather than airing grievances in public.
Yul’s statement extends beyond family privacy to address self-preservation and the importance of not seeking approval from others at the cost of one’s well-being.
“You’re not here to impress anybody,” he urged, adding, “Trying to impress everyone will kill you before your time, and people will move on.”

For Yul, living authentically and making decisions that ensure one’s peace take priority over winning public approval. “A man has his reasons for everything. Don’t stay where you will die just to impress people,” he noted, emphasizing that enduring public pressure can lead to personal harm.
In Nigerian culture, where family bonds are often tightly held, Yul’s stance reflects a belief in family unity even amid disagreements.
By urging relatives to handle disputes privately, Yul’s words seem to echo a desire to protect the family’s collective reputation and legacy, especially in an industry where public figures often face relentless scrutiny.
“Great people don’t castigate their family,” he concluded. For Yul, this principle of loyalty and discretion applies to all family members, whether siblings, parents, or children, no matter the external pressures.
