Event Organizer Details How ‘Order From Above’ Stopped Shatta Wale’s UG Show

Amid the commotion surrounding Shatta Wale’s University of Ghana (UG) TF Hostel Artiste Night concert, which was abruptly cancelled, the event organizer has provided some insight into what truly transpired.

A furious Shatta Wale had previously taken to Facebook to express his anger towards his long-standing rival, Stonebwoy, accusing him of colluding with the school authorities to stop his show.

As previously reported by Tru News Report, Shatta Wale was scheduled to perform at James Top Nelson Yankah Hall (TF hostel), while Stonebwoy had a concert planned at Liman Hall, both located within the University of Ghana campus.

However, while Stonebwoy’s show proceeded smoothly, Shatta Wale’s performance was abruptly halted.

Shatta Wale was incensed by this turn of events and accused Stonebwoy of sabotaging him for the second time, following their near clash at the Accra Sports Stadium last year.

However, in a statement clarifying the situation, Wave Africa revealed that the Dean of Students had permitted the event to proceed, on the condition that Shatta Wale did not perform.

According to Wave Africa, an undisclosed “order from above” was issued, preventing Shatta Wale from performing on the same night, although no further details were provided regarding the reason behind this decision.

See below for full statement;

“Wave Africa, a youth-focused marketing and communication agency, wishes to address the misconceptions surrounding the cancellation of the Reunion Rave Artiste Night in collabora- tion with TF Hostels.

“Wave Africa was contacted two months ago by the executives of Jean Topp Nelson Yankah Hall to provide an artist and organise the event on their behalf. The 2 months-long delibera- tions were concluded and a formal contract was signed on Wednesday, 5th June, 2024. Following the contract signing, the Wave Africa team proactively secured and signed a deal with Shatta Wale to perform on the night, and his promotional poster was subsequently released.

“On Friday, 7th June, we saw an online communique from the Dean of Students’ Office announcing the cancellation of the event. We contacted the hall executives, who were responsible for securing the venue as per the contract.

“They assured us that the issues with the Dean of Students office had been resolved. Based on the assurances from the hall executives, our team proceeded with the event plans. Additional security measures were arranged with law enforcement agencies to ensure an incident free event.

“On Saturday, 8th June 2024, during our setup and sound check, Legon campus security interrupted, saying it’s an “order from above. A delegation from our team met with the Dean of Students and was informed that the event could proceed but without Shatta Wale’s performance. We adhered just as we were directed.

“We, as event organizers, are surprised and disappointed by the turn of events and the last-minute ban on Shatta Wale’s performance at TF Hostel, though the artiste night itself was not cancelled. We deeply apologize to the fans for not being able to deliver Shatta Wale’s performance as promised.

“We have referred the matter to our legal team and are making efforts to reach out to all stakeholders involved. Thank you.”
