In an interview with Hitz FM, artiste manager and pundit Bulldog openly acknowledged the massive influence of Shatta Wale in Ghana’s Reggae and Dancehall scene, despite their well-documented rivalry.
Speaking with Tilly and DJ Slim, Bulldog praised Shatta Wale’s reach, noting, “Shatta Wale’s influence in Reggae and Dancehall is undeniable… even the deaf and mute know his name and his impact on Ghana’s music scene.”
His words highlight Shatta Wale’s profound connection with Ghanaian youth and his role in pushing the genre’s popularity in the country.
Shatta Wale, known for his fiery personality and unfiltered style, initially rose to prominence in the early 2000s, then re-emerged around 2013 with a renewed energy, becoming a key figure in reshaping Ghana’s Dancehall identity.
Known for his large fanbase and unapologetic stance, he has amassed a reputation that positions him as both a musical and cultural icon. This influence hasn’t come without controversy, however, as his career has often been marked by feuds, most notably with fellow Dancehall heavyweight Stonebwoy.
Though Bulldog praised Shatta Wale’s dominance, he also emphasized Stonebwoy’s current standing, citing his consistency and presence on the international stage.
“Stonebwoy’s consistency and longevity are unmatched,” Bulldog remarked, asserting that Stonebwoy has managed to sustain his appeal across Africa and beyond, bolstered by his strategic collaborations with international artists and an evolving musical style that maintains his core Dancehall roots.
Stonebwoy’s journey began in the mid-2000s, rising through the ranks to solidify himself as a Dancehall and Afrobeat force, with a fanbase nearly as fervent as Shatta Wale’s.
This longstanding rivalry between Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy has fueled the Ghanaian Dancehall scene, pushing both artists to consistently deliver.

Still, their contributions have been vital to the genre’s development in Ghana and across Africa, where Dancehall has taken on a uniquely Ghanaian flavour thanks to their influence.
