Eminem broke his four-year album hiatus on Friday, July 12, with the release of “The Death of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce)”.
The album, now available on streaming platforms, sees the Detroit rapper reviving his Slim Shady persona to deliver sharp commentary on pop culture and hip-hop figures, with a particular focus on Sean “Diddy” Combs.
The Bad Boy CEO becomes a recurring target throughout the LP, with Eminem addressing the recent sexual misconduct allegations against Combs. On the track “Antichrist”, Eminem makes a direct reference to Diddy, seemingly alluding to the 2016 incident where Diddy was filmed assaulting his ex-partner Cassie in a Los Angeles hotel. Eminem raps, “Next idiot ask me is getting his a– beat worse than Diddy did,” followed by a crude reference that appears to reference Cassie without naming her.
Fans have also identified potential disses on the J.I.D-featured track “Fuel”. Here, Eminem pays tribute to The Notorious B.I.G. and 2Pac while seemingly insinuating Diddy’s involvement in their deaths. The lyrics include references to “Keefe D” and wordplay that could be interpreted as “P. Diddy”.
The album’s content appears to draw from recent controversies, including Cassie’s 2023 lawsuit against Diddy, which alleged rape and years of physical abuse. The lawsuit also included a claim that Diddy had attempted to blow up Kid Cudi’s car in 2012 due to Cudi’s romantic interest in Cassie.
Diddy has yet to respond to the diss. Ghana Street Journal will keep you updated with any developments.
