Faustina Elikplim Akurugu of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has been officially declared the Member of Parliament-elect for the Dome/Kwabenya constituency by the Electoral Commission of Ghana.
The announcement, made during a ceremony at the Commission’s headquarters on December 31, 2024, reaffirmed an earlier declaration from December 8, 2024.
This followed a lengthy collation process that ended with Akurugu securing 50,967 votes, narrowly edging out her opponent, Mike Oquaye Jnr. of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who polled 50,669 votes.
Previously, the Electoral Commission had signalled plans to hold a re-run at the Abokobi Women’s Training Center polling station, a hotspot of contention during the election.
However, the confirmation of Akurugu’s victory means that the re-run will no longer be necessary, resolving the dispute and officially bringing the election to a close.
