The debate over the role of formal education in achieving success has resurfaced after popular Nigerian content creator Kuye Adegoke, better known as Egungun of Lagos, suggested that school is not a prerequisite for success.
His statement has sparked discussions online, with social media influencer Tunde Ednut offering a subtle response.
Egungun of Lagos, in a recent interview with media personality Daddy Freeze, expressed skepticism about the value of academic qualifications in determining success.
He cited his personal experiences, revealing that despite having a degree himself, many of his employees, including his chef, videographer, and personal assistant, are also university graduates but work in roles unrelated to their fields of study.

“School cannot guarantee your success in life. I have a chef; he’s a nutritionist. We studied biology together at Unilag. He has two degrees—he’s a nutritionist and a dietician. I have five staff members. My PA is also a graduate, and my videographer is a graduate as well,” he said.
His comments have reignited conversations on social media about the relevance of a university degree in today’s economy, particularly in Nigeria, where many graduates struggle to secure jobs in their fields of study.
While some agreed with his stance, arguing that skills and networking often outweigh formal education, others maintained that education remains crucial for knowledge, discipline, and broader career opportunities.
Reacting to the viral video, Tunde Ednut suggested that Egungun’s perspective may have been influenced by his current financial success. In a short but telling response, he remarked, “Man is successful, no worry.”
