In a poignant message shared with his fans on Facebook, John Dumelo, the MP-elect for Ayawaso West Wuogon, has announced his father’s death, Engineer John William Kudzo Anato-Dumelo Snr.
The unexpected loss comes just days before Dumelo is sworn into office.
Recounting their final moments together, Dumelo revealed that his father, aged 75, had called him several times the day before, urging him to visit.
“We sat on the bed and talked about so much—politics, life, farming, and business. We even gossiped a little,” Dumelo recalled, painting a picture of a deep and personal bond between father and son.

Dumelo shared that during their conversation, his father gave him one final piece of advice: to serve with diligence in his new role as a Member of Parliament.
“You told me to serve diligently in government,” he wrote, noting how those words would remain with him as he embarks on this new chapter.
However, what began as an ordinary yet meaningful visit took a devastating turn just minutes after he left his father’s house.
“Ten minutes after I left, I got a call saying you were unresponsive. We rushed you to the hospital, but you were gone,” Dumelo recounted.
Despite the heartbreak, Dumelo expressed immense gratitude for his father’s influence, describing him as his “best friend” and “number one cheerleader.”
He also took a moment to honour his father’s legacy, writing, “Thank you for everything you did for me. Say hi to mum for us. We’ll miss you deeply.”
The news of his father’s passing has drawn an outpouring of condolences from fans, friends, and colleagues who have taken to social media to support Dumelo during this challenging time.
