John Setor Dumelo, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Ayawaso West Wuogon, has made serious allegations against the current Member of Parliament (MP), Lydia Alhassan.
According to Dumelo, Alhassan allegedly attempted to bribe a security officer at the University of Ghana, Legon, with gifts of rice and oil. This accusation has raised eyebrows and sparked further tension in the already heated political climate of the constituency.

In a post shared on social media, Dumelo outlined the claims, stating, “I have received reports that the Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon, Lydia Alhassan, allegedly met with a security officer at the University of Ghana, Legon, and attempted to bribe him with rice and oil.”
He went on to describe the officer’s reaction, which he said was captured on video. According to Dumelo, the officer clearly rejected the bribe, stating that he would not be influenced by such gifts.
“The officer, seen in a video, clearly stated that he would not be influenced by the gifts,” Dumelo added. However, he claimed that the officer was now being pressured to withdraw his statement. “Now, he is reportedly being pressured to withdraw his statement or risk being fired,” Dumelo alleged, further fueling the controversy surrounding the incident.

Dumelo did not hold back in his criticism of the actions he attributed to Alhassan. He expressed his concerns about the apparent attempts to manipulate the integrity of those serving in educational institutions like the University of Ghana.
“I urge voters to reject such intimidation,” Dumelo urged. “This is a university community, and individuals must have the courage to stand against oppression.”
