The Federal High Court has stepped in to secure the release of controversial artist Darlington Okoye, famously known as Speed Darlington or Akpi, following weeks in police custody.
In a bold ruling on Monday, January 6, Justice M.S. Liman ordered the Inspector General of Police to either charge the artist within 48 hours or grant him unconditional freedom.
The court also instructed Abubakar Marshal, a member of Darlington’s legal team, to serve as his surety.
Darlington’s lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, shared the news on X (formerly Twitter), sparking a wave of reactions from fans and critics alike.
Speed Darlington’s troubles began on November 27 when he was detained in Owerri, Imo State.
His legal team claims the arrest was orchestrated by none other than Burna Boy, fueling a storm of speculation and intrigue within Nigeria’s music scene.
