Ghanaian socialite Kwame Owusu Fordjour, popularly known as Dr. UN, has appealed for financial help as he battles a severe kidney condition requiring urgent surgery.
Known for his controversial personality and infamous awards scheme, Dr. UN now faces a health crisis that has forced him to seek public support after exhausting his own financial resources.

Appearing visibly frail in recent public appearances, Dr. UN shared that his medical costs have escalated to over GH₵400,000 (about $34,000).
This amount includes not only the cost of his surgery but also ongoing expenses for lab tests, medications, and other treatments critical to managing his condition.
According to him, while he initially hoped to handle the health challenges privately, his financial strain has compelled him to make his condition known in hopes of receiving community support.
“I never thought I’d have to come out like this,” he explained, speaking with a subdued tone far from his typical confident demeanour.
He noted that despite his efforts, the condition has deteriorated, leaving him little choice but to ask for help. “It’s hard to face this reality, but I have to if I want to get back on my feet.”
Dr. UN, who became a popular figure due to his unique approach to “honouring” public figures, attracted significant public attention in 2020 when he awarded several prominent Ghanaians with what he termed the “UN Blueprint Awards,” a scheme he claimed was affiliated with the United Nations.

This initiative later led to widespread discussions after it was revealed that the awards were not officially sanctioned by the UN, yet Dr. UN maintained his stance, claiming it was all part of his mission to recognize excellence.
While his past may have brought him a mix of admiration and scepticism, many in Ghana are now recognizing his need for support on a deeply personal level.
Social media has seen a range of reactions, from empathy and encouragement to donations and fundraising efforts as Dr. UN shares the challenges he faces.
