Political analyst Dr. Asah Asante has taken a swipe at former President Nana Akufo-Addo’s leadership, arguing that many of his grand promises, including the Ghana Beyond Aid agenda, failed to materialize due to a lack of proper implementation.
In an interview with Naa Dedei Tettey on Starr FM, Dr. Asante questioned the government’s commitment to its own policies, describing Akufo-Addo’s approach as one of lofty declarations without meaningful action.
“It is a statement which is very interesting, but one would have thought that the President’s charity begins at home,” he remarked, pointing out that while the Ghana Beyond Aid vision was introduced, it never truly took off.
“He started the process, but it didn’t end anywhere. The government itself did not put in the effort to sustain or implement it. It was just a mere statement with no conscious effort to make it a reality.”

Dr. Asante extended his critique beyond economic independence, accusing the former president of consistently failing to deliver on major promises. He pointed to Akufo-Addo’s pledge to make Accra the cleanest city in Africa, questioning whether any significant progress was made in that regard.
“The former president had a habit of pronouncing beautiful ideas and policies, but he could not actualize them,” he stated.
“He said he would make Accra the cleanest city—was that achieved? He promised to fight corruption, but what happened? There is a disconnect between what was said and what was done.”
