Ghanaian gospel musician and Reverend Minister Sonnie Badu has passionately appealed to Ghanaians to reject violence amidst rising political tensions.
His plea comes in the wake of inflammatory comments from political figures that have raised fears of unrest during the country’s power transition period.
“Someone said people should come out, but no, they should go out alone and face the consequences themselves,” Badu said, aiming for recent calls for retaliation.

“If you’re thinking of going out, be smart. You might end up spending Christmas in a cell as power transitions.” He urged Ghanaians to embrace peace, adding, “Please enjoy your Christmas peacefully with your family. Ghana, let’s say NO to gun violence!”
Reflecting on a moment of unity, Badu questioned the apparent disconnect between political leaders and their supporters.
“I saw our incoming President, @officialjdmahama, and outgoing President, @nakufoaddo, laughing and smiling together. So, what’s going on here?” His comment highlighted how top leaders often maintain cordial relationships while their rhetoric risks dividing citizens.
Badu’s call for calm comes against a backdrop of heated exchanges between party members.
The NPP’s 3rd Vice Chairman, Alhaji Masaudu, issued a controversial statement urging party supporters to retaliate against the opposition NDC. Masaudu, addressing alleged destruction of property and intimidation by NDC supporters, declared that NPP members should seek revenge and come out armed if necessary.

“The men in NPP, come out. As vice chairman in charge of operations at the headquarters, I will not stand by and allow my people to be intimidated.
“Anyone with a gun, bring it out,” he said. Masaudu further accused the NDC of failing to appreciate the NPP’s earlier concession of defeat, warning that they would respond in kind.
