Don’t Sit Idle, Make Your Own Movies – Lilwin Advises Fellow Actors

Kumawood actor and producer Lilwin has called on fellow actors to take charge of their careers instead of waiting for producers to cast them.

According to him, the Ghanaian film industry is struggling due to a lack of investment, forcing many filmmakers, including himself, to finance their own productions.

“At the moment, our industry is struggling mainly because of lack of investment. This has forced some of us to finance our own film productions,” he told Graphic Showbiz in an interview.

Despite the financial difficulties, Lilwin has managed to produce multiple movies and TV projects without external support. He believes actors who have the skills and passion should not wait for opportunities but rather create their own.

“I, therefore, urge my colleagues to make a move because you can’t sit idle; I mean waiting for a producer to give you a role. If you have what it takes, come out with your own movie.”

His latest film, A Country Called Ghana, has proven that self-financing can lead to success.

The movie has won multiple awards, including Best Indigenous Film at the 2024 Nollywood Film Festival and Best Production Design and Best Make-Up at the 2024 Imo International Film Festival.

“A Country Called Ghana is the best production in recent times, just like the classic I Told You So,” he said.

Lilwin, who has personally funded all his projects, believes his work would be even better with financial backing.

“Today, I’m proud to say all my movies and even TV productions were funded by myself without any external support. So you can imagine the quality of productions I would come out with if I had an investor cushioning me.”

His story is an example of perseverance for young Ghanaian filmmakers. While funding remains a challenge, Lilwin’s message is clear—those willing to take risks and invest in their craft can still make an impact in the industry.
