Legendary rapper LL Cool J has shared words of encouragement for Lil Wayne, following the news that Wayne, one of hip-hop’s most celebrated artists, would not be performing at next year’s Super Bowl in his hometown of New Orleans.

Reflecting on the situation, LL Cool J emphasized Lil Wayne’s immense talent and success, assuring him that a temporary setback like this shouldn’t overshadow his achievements.

“Lil Wayne is one of the most talented dudes on the planet, period. He’s one of our great artists, he’s an unbelievable writer,” LL stated in an interview. “Let Kendrick [Lamar] get that. Let’s keep it moving. I never did the Super Bowl!”

The legendary rapper, who knows a thing or two about navigating the highs and lows of a long career, urged Lil Wayne not to be disheartened by the missed opportunity.

He touched on Wayne’s pride in his Louisiana roots but highlighted that this moment would eventually pass. “Wayne comes from a very proud state, Louisiana, and a very proud city, New Orleans. But this is the thing: your time will come, you’ll have your day […] You can’t let that break you.”

LL Cool J spoke from experience, using his own journey as an example of resilience. He recounted how he faced numerous rejections before finally being inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

“I got not put in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame it felt like 999,000 times before I got in. It didn’t break me. I didn’t even make a comment. As a matter of fact, I laughed,” he said, underscoring the importance of perspective and patience in such moments.

In a tone of reassurance, LL concluded by suggesting that Lil Wayne’s reaction might have stemmed from the enormous success he’s achieved over the years. “These are champagne problems. There are guys who can’t get their demo listened to! I think we get a little bit kind of, unintentionally, spoiled,” he explained. “It’s like, ‘Yo, man. You a bad boy.’ Wayne is crème de la crème.”
