Don’t Blame Bawumia for NPP’s Defeat – Adwoa Safo

Former Deputy Majority Leader, Sarah Adwoa Safo, has pushed back against attempts to blame Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) 2024 election defeat, criticizing the credibility of the party’s fact-finding committee.

“We know what we know, and we have heard what we’ve heard. He shouldn’t come and tell us that we should blame everything on Bawumia because Ghanaians don’t want him and that we won’t market him again,” she stated.

She also questioned the neutrality of the committee, arguing that its chairman, Prof. Mike Oquaye, lacked the objectivity needed for such a role.

“His son has lost, and you think he is the best person to lead a fact-finding committee that includes that very constituency? Why not choose an independent person?”

Adwoa Safo pointed to the Ashanti Region’s election report, which did not attribute the party’s loss to Bawumia, as a credible assessment.

“The Ashanti report does not blame Bawumia for the party’s defeat, and that is a credible report,” she emphasized, suggesting that any manipulation of findings would undermine the party’s efforts to rebuild.
