Not long ago, Gifty Afenyi-Dadzie, the National Prayer Director for Aglow International Ghana, made a statement regarding the prevailing state of affairs in Ghana. This comment was made during Aglow’s mid-year Thanksgiving service, which took place at the State House on Saturday, June 15, 2024.
While many Ghanaians have criticized her for this statement, Ghanaian entertainer Derrick Kobina Bonney (DKB) also shared his opinion. According to the comedian, influential individuals displaying such hypocrisy is the reason why people have lost interest in attending church.
During the aforementioned thanksgiving service, Madam Afenyi-Dadzie emphasized that despite the numerous challenges faced by Ghana, God has been good to the country. This statement has gained significant attention and is currently trending.
The reason behind this trending comment is that during the previous government’s tenure under the leadership of John Dramani Mahama, Gifty and her team of prayer warriors made up of women organized several prayer sessions that were focused on causing disaffection for the government.
However, during the current era, where the government under the NPP has been facing economic difficulties that have resulted in widespread suffering and turmoil, Gifty organized a prayer session to express gratitude for God’s mercy towards Ghana.
She acknowledged that although the country has been grappling with economic, power, water, and weather challenges, God has preserved its peace and stability through His mercies.
“We are faced with economic challenges, we are faced with ‘dumsor,’ and we acknowledge that we have water shortages, but because of God’s mercies daily, we are not consumed. Although the cost of living has skyrocketed, by God’s grace, we are still witnessing traditional marriages, wedding ceremonies, outdooring, and birthday parties.
“Let’s consider what is happening to other nations around us in terms of natural disasters, and you will agree with me that God has been more than magnanimous to Ghana,” she said.
However, DKB argues that the statement is hypocritical, and it is these actions that contribute to the perception of Ghanaian youth being disinterested in the church.
“It’s people like these that have made the youth lose interest in the church. During Mahama’s time, wasn’t God’s grace available? Rubbish!” he wrote in a post.
