Ghanaian comedian Derrick Kobina Bonney, popularly known as DKB, has weighed in on a notable incident during President John Dramani Mahama’s recent inauguration ceremony.
Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo faced an uncomfortable moment when some attendees were heard hooting as he approached President Mahama to offer his congratulations after the swearing-in.
Reflecting on the incident, DKB remarked, “If it were me, I’d be very ashamed of myself being hooted at as a President.” His statement underscored the gravity of the situation, suggesting that such public disapproval reflects the frustrations of Ghanaians.

The comedian referenced a famous quote by Ghana’s first President, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, to emphasize his point: “Nkrumah said it right: Ghanaians are very gentle and patient people, but if you take them for granted, they will also take you for granted.”
This comment hinted at a larger context of public dissatisfaction with Akufo-Addo’s tenure.
The event, which took place at the iconic Black Star Square on January 7, 2025, marked the start of Mahama’s third term as President.
It also symbolized a dramatic shift in leadership following Mahama’s decisive victory over Akufo-Addo’s running mate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, in the 2024 elections.
