On the night of Sunday, January 12th, Nigerian disc jockey Nonso Temisan Ajufo, popularly known as DJ Big N, faced a harrowing encounter that he describes as both terrifying and transformative.

What began as a night out in Johannesburg, South Africa, turned into a near-death experience that left him with a gunshot wound and a fresh outlook on life.

Recounting the ordeal, DJ Big N shared that after enjoying time with friends at a luxurious lounge, he decided to move to another club with an acquaintance.

On their way, as they stopped at a traffic light, two cars filled with six armed men ambushed them. The men, carrying automatic rifles, approached the vehicle, and chaos ensued.

“I tried to escape, but I got shot in the leg,” he recalled. “One of the robbers held a rifle to my head, demanding my watch, chain, and other jewelry. I struggled to remove my watch, all while bleeding profusely.”

Despite the chaos and the severe wound, DJ Big N managed to get back to the car, and the driver rushed him to the nearest hospital.

Miraculously, the bullet narrowly missed a major artery and bone. Doctors described the survival as “lucky,” though the DJ attributed it to divine intervention and the prayers of his mother.

Although the robbers made away with over $114,000 worth of valuables, including jewelry, DJ Big N emerged from the experience with a deeper understanding of life. “Material possessions mean nothing.

“Life is fragile, and validation is meaningless,” he stated. “God gave me another chance, and I’m committed to living more authentically and appreciating life without unnecessary stress.”

DJ Big N also expressed gratitude for the good things he encountered during his time in South Africa, acknowledging the warmth of the people and the beauty of the country. He urged others not to judge the entire nation based on isolated incidents. “South Africa 🇿🇦 … I Visit, I Don’t Judge,” he concluded.
