Tanzanian music mogul Diamond Platnumz has opened up about his decision to release singer Mbosso from his WCB Wasafi record label without demanding a payout.
Speaking about their longstanding relationship, Diamond shared, “Mbosso came to me and asked if I would allow him to manage himself. He was willing to pay the remainder of his contract, but I said no.”
The Wasafi CEO highlighted the respect and loyalty Mbosso had shown throughout his time with the label, making it impossible for him to accept the buyout.
“Not because I didn’t want the money, but because of the mutual respect he has shown me and our brotherly love over the years,” he explained.

Diamond emphasized that this decision was not typical, pointing out that some former Wasafi artists had left on bad terms.
“Had he been like the other artists who have been arrogant and disrespectful to me in the past despite my investment in them, I promise you Mbosso wouldn’t have left Wasafi cheaply,” he added.
The revelation follows Diamond’s recent confirmation that all necessary processes to terminate Mbosso’s contract had been completed, officially making him an independent artist.
The move marks a new chapter for Mbosso, who has built a strong reputation in East African music under the Wasafi brand.
