Tanzanian music superstar Diamond Platnumz received a rousing welcome upon his arrival at Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport ahead of his performance at the Kadoma Music Festival.
Accompanied by his full band, Diamond was greeted with an energetic traditional dance performance by the Hwamanda troupe, who honoured the singer with drumming and dancing. In return, Diamond expressed his gratitude by gifting the group American dollars.
Fans flocked to the airport, eager to catch a glimpse of the artist, who was also reunited with Zimbabwean rapper King 98, adding to the excitement of his return to Zimbabwe.
Diamond Platnumz is set to take the stage alongside Zimbabwean music icons Alick Macheso, Jah Prayzah, and Winky D, in what promises to be one of the most anticipated performances of the Kadoma Music Festival.
This marks his second performance in Zimbabwe, following his debut in 2016 at the “Watora Mari Concert,” where he performed with Jah Prayzah.
The festival will also feature the debut of the Chibadura Brothers—sons of the late James Chibadura—as well as performances by Chimurenga artist Kurai Makore, rapper Saintfloew, and singer Gemma Griffiths.
However, it is Diamond who commands the most attention, given his immense popularity in Zimbabwe and across Africa.
Diamond Platnumz, born Naseeb Abdul Juma, has emerged as one of Africa’s biggest musical exports. His blend of Bongo Flava, a genre that mixes Afrobeat, hip-hop, and traditional Tanzanian sounds, has made him a household name across the continent and beyond.
Over the years, he has expanded his influence with collaborations featuring international stars like Rick Ross, Ne-Yo, and Omarion, as well as major African artists such as Davido.
His hit single “Number One,” featuring Davido, helped propel him to stardom beyond East Africa, establishing him as a leader in African music.
His growing popularity in Zimbabwe began with his 2016 performance at the Harare International Conference Centre (HICC), which helped solidify his bond with Zimbabwean fans. Since then, his influence has only expanded, making his return to Zimbabwe highly anticipated.
During a press conference on Friday, Diamond assured fans of a “show of a lifetime,” emphasizing that he had brought his full band to deliver a polished and unforgettable performance.
He also revealed that he had travelled with his two children, stating that he ensures they join him when they are on holiday, highlighting his commitment to balancing his music career with his role as a father.
Diamond Platnumz continues to grow his influence, not only as an artist but as a cultural icon. His ability to connect with fans across Africa and internationally through his music, collaborations, and electrifying performances has set him apart in the industry.
As he prepares to perform at the Kadoma Music Festival, fans are eager to witness what promises to be yet another spectacular show from one of Africa’s biggest stars.
