Ghanaian musician Edwin Eshun, popularly known as Beeztrap KOTM, has joined the ongoing debate surrounding the ownership of “Detty December,” a term synonymous with vibrant end-of-year festivities.
Speaking during an exclusive interview with GhanaWeb journalist Joseph Henry Mensah at the 2024 Rapperholic concert, Beeztrap passionately declared that the celebration remains a Ghanaian phenomenon, despite the increasing prominence of Lagos, Nigeria, during the festive period.
“I am just working, but this December, I have not really been in Accra. I have been to Dormaa and its environs,” Beeztrap shared about his personal holiday plans. “But Detty December is for Ghana, and no one can take it away from us.”
The debate was sparked by the global spotlight on Nigeria’s festivities, with international stars like Gunna, Tyla, Chloe Bailey, and Saweetie making appearances in Lagos.
The social media platform X, formerly Twitter, has since been ablaze with discussions, as some Ghanaians accused Nigerians of “stealing” the concept of “Detty December.”
Reflecting on his career journey, Beeztrap celebrated 2024 as a breakthrough year for his music, expressing gratitude for the recognition he’s received.
“2024 has been my year of breakthrough. It has been my year of blessing. I have been doing this music thing, but I think I was accepted this year,” he said.
Looking ahead, he promised fans an even bigger 2025. “I can’t lie; I kept it cool in 2024, but 2025 is going to be scary. It is going to be very dangerous. I am going to give them back to back.”
