In a recent episode of the Honest Brunch podcast produced by Nedu, veteran Nigerian actor Kanayo O. Kanayo made an interesting statement about the incomparable work ethic of American actor Denzel Washington.
Kanayo emphasized that his dedication and the immense amount of time he devotes to his craft cannot be replicated by Washington.
According to Kanayo, if Denzel were to invest the same number of hours into movie production as he does, it would result in a noticeable darkening of his skin colour.
Furthermore, Kanayo asserted that American entertainers coined the term ‘Nollywood’ to describe the Nigerian film industry, which was initially referred to as ‘Nothingwood’ due to its perceived insignificance.

Kanayo said; “If Denzel Washington puts in the number of hours I put in a production here, his colour will change to charcoal the next day”.
He added; “They have come to understudy us. Americans from New York came to study us, and they said guys, ‘we see some efforts here and there, these things take us about one month to sort, how come you achieve it in one week?’ So it was now a course of study for them, they saw the zeal we put in.”
Denzel Washington Jr. is an American actor, producer, and director. Known for his versatile work spanning over four decades of screen and stage, Washington has been regarded as one of the finest actors of his generation, with The New York Times naming him the greatest actor of the 21st century in 2020.
Washington has received several honours, including two Academy Awards, a Tony Award, two Golden Globe Awards, as well as the Cecil B. DeMille Award and AFI Life Achievement Award, and nominations for two Primetime Emmy Awards.
