Afia Schwarzenegger has expressed her views regarding a prayer session held for former President John Dramani Mahama at the De Icon Event Centre.
The gathering brought together several clergymen who prayed for Mahama, the flagbearer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the upcoming elections.
In a pointed reaction, Afia took to social media to voice her scepticism about the event. She stated, “My Father Prophet Owusu Bempah prayed for my father, the dead goat. I hope Ghanaians with short memories will remember this day!”
This statement is laden with sarcasm and is a clear indication of her opinions on both Mahama and the perceived political opportunism of some religious leaders.
By referring to Mahama as “the dead goat,” she implies a lack of respect or regard for his leadership and character.
Afia’s comments also touched on the contentious issue of illegal mining, commonly known as “galamsey,” which has been a significant concern in Ghana, particularly during Mahama’s presidency.
She urged the public to remember the adverse effects of galamsey, which she associates with Mahama’s administration, calling for an end to the practice that has devastating consequences for the environment and local communities.
The prayer meeting, intended to rally support for Mahama among the Christian community, has drawn mixed reactions from the public.
While some see it as a legitimate effort to seek divine guidance for the political landscape, others, like Afia, view it as a publicity stunt aimed at gaining favour ahead of the elections.
