Davido To Sue Kenyan Publication Over April Fool’s Day Prank

Davido has announced his intention to sue a Kenyan online publication for falsely reporting his alleged arrest at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.

Davido singer released a statement on Tuesday, April 2, condemning the inaccurate news and labelling it as ‘extremely irresponsible’. K24 Digital, who shared the fabricated story as part of their April 1 Fool’s Day editorial, was called out for their misleading reporting.

Some Kenyan citizens were surprised on Monday morning when reports from a media outlet claimed that the Nigerian celebrity had been arrested by the police on Sunday.

The prank suggested that Davido and his seven companions were detained by the Anti-Narcotics Police Unit at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) promptly dismissed the news as ‘Fake News’ on their social media channels.

Davido departed from Kenya on Sunday following his performance at the Raha Fest in Uhuru Gardens, Nairobi, the previous night.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian superstar had further emphasized that the accusations had tarnished his reputation and his business, affirming that he was not taken into custody as claimed in the report – and that he had never faced arrest in any of the numerous countries he had travelled to.

The statement said: “Fam, it has come to my attention that false reports regarding an arrest circulated online on April 1st, which has since led to a barrage of calls.”

“I want to assure my fans that these reports are entirely untrue. I completed my scheduled shows in Uganda and Kenya and have since returned home to Nigeria.

“I’d also like to note that I have never been arrested by anyone in any country for any crime in the world. Not my home Nigeria, my home America, or any of the hundreds of countries I’ve made home throughout my career.”

Davido also indicated that he had already gotten in touch with his lawyer who would be judicially pursuing the matter on his behalf.

“I find the fabrication of allegations of such international crimes extremely irresponsible regardless of the light of `April Fools’, and my lawyer is seeking legal recourse against the media parties responsible for generating this misinformation,” he concluded.
