Cyber Security Authority Cautions SHS Graduates Over Indecent Social Media Posts

The Cyber Security Authority (CSA) has cautioned recent senior high school graduates to be mindful of what they post online, warning that indecent and irresponsible content can harm their future.

In recent weeks, social media—particularly TikTok—has been flooded with videos of some young graduates, mostly girls, bragging about plans to live promiscuously after school. Some openly declared intentions to date married men as “sugar daddies,” even warning wives not to interfere if they are seen with their husbands. Many of these posts, which have gone viral, show the girls still in their school uniforms, cheered on by their friends.

In a statement released in Accra on Thursday, September 25, 2025, the CSA described this trend as disturbing. It highlighted the use of vulgar language, public threats, and open talk of “snatching people’s husbands” as examples of worrying behaviour now circulating widely online.

The Authority reminded graduates that while social media offers a platform for creativity, networking, and self-expression, it also comes with responsibility. Online posts, it explained, form part of a permanent digital footprint—records often reviewed by universities, employers, and scholarship boards. Irresponsible online activity could therefore damage future academic, career, and professional opportunities.

Beyond that, such conduct also leaves young people vulnerable to cyberbullying, harassment, grooming, exploitation, and in some cases, even the risk of breaking Ghana’s cybercrime laws, including the Cybersecurity Act, 2020 (Act 1038) and the Electronic Communications Act.

The CSA urged graduates to see digital platforms as tools for growth—whether through creativity, entrepreneurship, or networking—rather than using them for harmful or indecent content.

“As Ghana continues its journey of digital transformation, the CSA emphasises the importance of responsible online behaviour among the youth,” the statement noted.

It added that the Authority will continue collaborating with the Ministry of Education, civil society organisations, and community leaders to promote safe and responsible use of the internet.
