President John Dramani Mahama has officially sworn in COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno as the new Inspector-General of Police (IGP), ushering in a leadership transition within the Ghana Police Service.
The ceremony, held at the Jubilee House on Friday, March 14, followed the removal of Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, whose exit was announced a day earlier.
While the government has not provided an official reason for his dismissal, sources indicate that the decision is part of a broader effort to reshape the leadership and operational strategy of the police service.
Dr. Dampare, who served as IGP since 2021, was instrumental in implementing key reforms aimed at improving public trust, enforcing discipline, and professionalizing law enforcement.
His tenure saw notable crime reduction efforts, enhanced community engagement, and a push for greater accountability within the force.
