Gary Nimako, Director of Legal Affairs for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has voiced his reservations about the party’s swift reaction to the Office of the Special Prosecutor’s (OSP) declaration of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta as a fugitive.
Speaking on Neat FM, Nimako emphasized the need for thorough consultation before making public pronouncements.
“I would have advised that the press conference should have been delayed pending further investigation and consultation.
In certain cases, you don’t just react immediately. You must consult, ask questions from all parties involved, and come to a conclusion before proceeding,” he stated.

His remarks follow a February 13, 2025, press conference held at the NPP headquarters, where the party, led by National Organiser Henry Nana Boakye, known as Nana B, dismissed the OSP’s classification of Ofori-Atta as a fugitive.
“Mr. Ken Ofori-Atta can never be a fugitive. He is not a fugitive, and he will never be a fugitive. The OSP got it wrong,” Nana B declared.
However, Nimako believes the party should have handled the matter with a more strategic and less reactionary approach. “This matter should not be surrounded by drama or excessive discussion but rather handled with calmness, engagement, and mutual understanding,” he advised.
He further urged Ofori-Atta’s legal team to engage directly with the OSP to clarify the situation.
“Lawyers representing Ken Ofori-Atta should write to the OSP, proposing a suitable date for him to appear based on his availability. Given that he is seeking medical care, his doctors will determine when he is fit enough to honour the invitation,” he suggested.
