James Gregory, known as the Funniest Man in America, passed away at 78 years old. The comedian died in Tennessee due to heart-related issues.

James, who recently celebrated his birthday, was born in Georgia on May 6, 1946, right in his parents’ kitchen. It was in 1981, at the age of 36, when he responded to an advertisement inviting individuals to take part in a comedy night held in the basement of an Atlanta restaurant, that James embarked on his comedy career.

His family announced his death on his official Facebook page on May 9.

Today, with heavy hearts, we announce the passing of the Funniest Man in America, comedian James Gregory He brought laughter and joy to countless lives, leaving an indelible mark on the world of comedy and those who loved him.

James’ three nieces, Martha Anne, Mary Jane, and Candie, lovingly called him ‘Uncle Bubba’. Alongside their families, they played a vital role in providing care and support to James during his final days and weeks. The obituary they shared also mentioned that James passed away due to cardiac complications.

It also stated that just before his passing, “he completed work on his first and only autobiography, A Bushel of Beans and a Peck of Tomatoes: The Life and Times of “The Funniest Man in America,” James Gregory (Post Hill Press), which will be published in November 2024”.

The family has asked for privacy at this time, noting that funeral plans are to be determined.

Thousands of fans have flocked to the comment section of the post, with many sending condolences and messages of support to James’ family. One person penned: “So sorry to hear this. Loved watching him!”

Another person went on to write: “This breaks my heart. He really was the funniest. I’m so sad to hear of his passing. My condolences to his family and friends. God be with them all. May he rest in eternal peace.”

A third person then said: “Oh man….thats a tough one..loved this guy and his humor! Wish I could have seen him live….”. While a fourth added: “One of the most genuine funny men of my lifetime, what a legend.”
